Johannes Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675) was a Dutch Baroque painter born in Delft, where he lived and worked throughout his life. Considered one of the great masters of Dutch painting, he became renowned for his depictions of domestic scenes, characterized by an extraordinary mastery of light, color, and perspective. Raised in a Protestant family, he probably converted to Catholicism around the time of his marriage to Catharina Bolnes in 1653. He also worked as an art dealer and served as head of the Guild of Saint Luke, Delft's artists' association. His known output is relatively small, with approximately 35 to 37 paintings attributed to him.
