Visual description: A 19th-century oil painting by Eugenio Lucas Velázquez titled “Mass (The Elevation).” executed in a Goya-esque Romantic style. The scene depicts a dark, atmospheric church interior illuminated by a dramatic light source at the altar. A priest, wearing a chasuble, is seen from behind elevating the Chalice immediately after the Consecration. A devout congregation, mostly women wearing shawls and mantillas, kneels in the shadows on the left, bowed in deep reverence. To the right, an altar server kneels on the steps. The loose brushwork creates a sense of movement and spiritual intensity.
